Celebrating the semiquincentennial of America's independence, the treasury department is contemplating the minting of a $1 coin depicting Donald Trump with a tightened fist under an Stars and Stripes and the inscription “fight, fight, fight”.

Event-Driven Connection

This inscription overtly refers to what Trump declared immediately after escaping an assassination effort a few months before he won a return to the Oval Office.

Official Revelation

US Treasurer Brandon Beach shared a preliminary design of the coin on Friday via X, saying: “Absolutely real. These designs marking America’s 250th birthday and [Trump] are legitimate.”

The online announcement – which boosted another user commenting on the coin concept – stated that Beach looked “eager to provide updates” after the resolution of the government funding lapse that started after late Wednesday when Democratic senators demanding concessions on medical care and other funding matters declined to offer the votes necessary to pass a majority-backed spending legislation.

Legislative History

As highlighted, in 2020, at the close of his first presidency, Trump approved cross-party law permitting the Treasury head to release $1 coins during the upcoming anniversary year that are “emblematic of the United States 250th anniversary”.

Design Components

One side of the coin on whose proposed design Beach weighed in Friday showed Trump’s likeness alongside “Liberty”, “In God we Trust”, and “1776-2026”.

The back evoked the attempt on Trump’s life at a campaign event in Pennsylvania last year, when law enforcement said a shooter injured Trump’s hearing and wounded two others before being killed by the federal protective detail.

Trump clenched his hand after the shooting – one of two efforts on his life for him as he successfully ran for a second Oval Office term in 2024 – and yelled, “Fight, fight, fight!” with an American flag looming nearby.

Department Comment

A statement from a treasury department spokesperson stated that the concept which Beach’s X post discussed was not the “definitive coin design”. But the comment emphasized that “this proposal effectively captures the persistent ethos of our nation and democratic system, even in the midst of immense obstacles”.

Public Environment

Trump’s popularity on average has plummeted to low levels, as his current term has slashed medical safeguards and food aid that benefits the low-income, while also implementing import taxes that preceded a reported rise in cost of living.
