Ruben Amorim Vows Not to Resign at United but Acknowledges Dismissal Awaits If Performances Fail to Get Better

The Manchester United manager has made it clear that he will not resign from his role in spite of the club's current difficulties, but he admits that he could face dismissal if results fail to turn around.

Present Struggles & League Position

The head coach has collected only 34 points in 33 Premier League matches, with Manchester United now placed 14th in the table after finishing 15th finish the previous campaign. The Red Devils have secured only two victories from their opening seven fixtures this season, which includes a shock Carabao Cup exit against Grimsby Town as well as a recent loss to Brentford. That outcome prolonged Amorim's quest to secure his first consecutive Premier League wins since arriving 11 months previously.

This Saturday, Sunderland FC will visit the Theatre of Dreams, and a further loss would increase scrutiny facing Amorim.

Amorim's Position on Stepping Down

Questioned on whether he think about quitting, Amorim stated: “No, that's a decision of the board. I cannot take that step. Sometimes I have that feeling and losing hurts, not to create the momentum. It is deeply disappointing after you create that momentum, go to the next game, something happens. That feeling often hurts me deeply. It impacts the players and especially the staff here. But that is not my decision and I think it would be extremely difficult to walk away if I haven't given everything to pursue my path at United.”

“It’s a dream to manage here and I wish to continue at the club and I want to battle for success. However the problem now what makes me pain is losing games, not the fear of losing my job. You worry about losing your role if you have to cover expenses but I don't feel that pressure.”

Defending the Formation System

Amorim additionally offered an impassioned defense of the 3-4-3 system, that has come under fire of much criticism. Amorim has deployed this setup in every game and it is so far failed to deliver the consistency craved.

“Nobody at the club is naive,” he commented. “We understand that the team must win to continue our plans. We'll reach a point where it's untenable for everyone because this is a massive club with many partners, under dual ownership. It's challenging, the balance is really hard. What I want is to see the side – winning or losing – performing consistently but we're not doing that.”

Amorim pointed out that the team used various formations with past coaches, also without success. “We need perform with consistency, with the same intensity, with the same intensity, with the required focus. Should we achieve that, the system won't matter what the system is.”

Arrangements for Winter Exhibition Matches

He announced plans to arrange lucrative mid-season exhibition games in order to boost funds missed by not qualifying for Europe. “We have to do it as we anticipated when we miss Europe,” he explained. “We owe it to the supporters and our budget and we aim to be with supporters globally.”

Memorial for Synagogue Attack
